End of Contest

Unfortunately, the 2019 Murrysville Photo Contest was the last.  Thanks to everyone for participating in the contest over the years!  You showcased our neighborhoods, people and nature in the finest manner possible.

Many thanks to our gnerous sponsors, our coordinators, judges, photomeister, and everyone who helped with the contest over the years!  The content would not have been a success without all of you.

This website and the photo contest blog will remain active, so you will be able to track down all of the photos submitted over the years.

Thanks again for being part of this fun way to capture and share beautiful images taken in our community!

Several years ago the Westmoreland Conservancy held two photo contests in successive years in honor of the memory of Vernon Bachelder, for photos taken within the Conservancy's reserves.

In 2007 Friends of Murrysville Parks initiated a new contest for photos taken within Murrysville parks.  In 2008 the contest was expanded to include photos taken within Westmoreland Conservancy nature reserves, and the Westmoreland Conservancy joined Friends of Murrysville Parks to co-host the contest.

In 2010 Murrysville's Parks and Recreation Commission assumed hosting of the contest, and in 2011 opened the contest to photos taken anywhere outdoors in Murrysville with bonus points awarded to those taken in parks or reserves. In 2013 bonus points were eliminated for photos taken in parks or reserves to keep the playing field level for all entries. In 2013 the limit for photo file size was also removed (jpg format still being required for all entries).

In 2014 the Murrysville Trail Alliance assumed hosting of the contest.

Thank you to our Contest Sponsors, without whom the contest would not be possible.  The contest is also made possible by a wide variety of effort from many people, covering organizing, promoting, judging, gathering awards, and preparing displays of winning photographs.  Thank you to everyone who has helped in the past, and to those helping with the current contest:

Organizers Bill Powers and Dale Matuza
Judges Cary Bohl, Dave Metzgar, and Tom Morton
Our Photomeister who receives all entries, Doug Bauman
Kaitlin Sacherich, who maintains the contest Facebook page.

Special thanks to the Penn Franklin News, the Murrysville Star, and the Pittsburgh Tribune Review for publicizing the contests and results.

Thank you to
Murrysville's Recreation Department and the Murrysville Parks & Recreation Commission for their help with the contest.

Thank you to the Murrysville Community Library and the Municipality of Murrysville for hosting displays of winning photographs.  If your business or organization would like to host a display of winning photos please email or call.

Finally, thank you to everyone who entered photos showing the beauty of our communities!
