The 2012 Contest is now open for entries!

Any amateur photographer is invited to enter up to three (3) photos, taken anywhere outdoors in the Municipality of Murrysville, in any year. The contest deadline is midnight, December 31, 2012.

Entries will be judged on their creativity, photographic quality and composition, and whether the photo shows off the beauty or unique character of Murrysville. Bonus points will be given to those photos taken in a park or nature reserve.

If you would like to learn about how you can help with the contest or sponsor it, please email or call. Help with the contest is fun and always welcomed, and sponsorships provide excellent value and publicity for local businesses.

History of the contest

Several years ago the Westmoreland Conservancy held two photo contests in successive years in honor of the memory of Vernon Bachelder, for photos taken within the Conservancy's reserves.

In 2007 Friends of Murrysville Parks initiated a new contest for photos taken within Murrysville parks.  In 2008 the contest was expanded to include photos taken within Westmoreland Conservancy nature reserves, and the Westmoreland Conservancy joined Friends of Murrysville Parks to co-host the contest.

In 2010 Murrysville's Parks and Recreation Commission assumed hosting of the contest, and in 2011 opened the contest to photos taken anywhere outdoors in Murrysville (with bonus points awarded to those taken in parks or reserves).
